Scientists, last July, the hottest recorded so far revealed that July. A new report published by researchers shows that the Earth is warming more than ever. The measurements made between 2015-2019 show that this period is the hottest 5 years recorded.
In its report, United In Science, the Climate Action Summit Science Advisory Group published the latest data from eight research organizations. The report reveals that the Earth’s surface continues to heat up and that it doesn’t seem to stop. According to the data presented in the United In Science report, the 5-year temperature in 2015-2019 is 1.1 degrees Celsius higher than the pre-industrial revolution period and 0.28 degrees Celsius higher than the period 2011-2015.
The group’s report also provides a picture of sea-level rise, acidity, and fossil-fueled carbon dioxide emissions. The report stated that the current policies implemented after other data on climate change are not sufficient to achieve the objectives set out in the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.
In 2016, 195 countries signed the Paris Agreement to prevent climate change. The main objective of the Paris Agreement was to reduce the global temperature rise to below 2 degrees Celsius by 2100. In order to ensure that the global temperature rise is below 2 degrees in 2100, the greenhouse gas level must begin to decline from 2020 onwards. However, the published report shows that there will be no reduction in greenhouse gas even after 2030 with ongoing applications. If the greenhouse gas remains in the existing amount, the temperature rise of the sphere in 2100 will be more than 3 degrees.
In its previous report, the United Nations (UN) called for an unprecedented action için to mitigate the impacts of climate change and achieve the objectives set out in the Paris Agreement. The 1.5-degree increase so far does not cause the 2100 target to fail. However, a very rapid change is needed.
